Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Launched in India

The world’s first PlayStation certified smartphone, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, has already been officially launched in some European and Asian countries. The phone is available for purchase not only in the UK, but also in 10 other countries.

These countries are: Austria, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Switzerland, Sweden, and Taiwan.

The unlocked version of the Xperia Play costs slightly over €500 ($707), depending on where you’re getting it from.

Now SE has launched the phone in India, too.

Indian customers can get the phone for 31,000 – 32,000 INR (about $700) from some retail stores, as well as online – for example, Flipkart has the smartphone, and says it can ship it in 4 business days.

The Xperia Play is one of the most anticipated mobiles of the year mainly because it carries the “Playstation” branding.

It’s main draw is the sliding gamepad which features a d-pad, the four classic playstation buttons , 2 shoulder buttons and two touchpads. The mobile is powered by 1 Ghz processor and runs on Android 2.3. It also has a 5 mega-pixel camera with LED flash.

There are more than 60 games currently available for the Xperia Play, including Assassins Creed Altair’s Chronicles HD, Need for Speed, Dungeon Defenders Second Wave, Galaxy on Fire 2, and Worms.

According to SE, “the games are downloadable via the Xperia PLAY launcher, an application that is activated by sliding open the gamepad.”
