Japanese Companies Are Developing A New Mobile Platform

The major Japanese IT-companies NTT DoCoMo, Renesas Electronics, Fujitsu, NEC, Panasonic Mobile and Sharp announced their agreement to jointly develop a new application platform for mobile devices. This new platform will be compatible with both the Symbian and Linux operating systems. Possibly, it will be compatible with Android too. Compatibility with open operating systems such as Android is under consideration.
According to the representatives of these companies the new platform will offer improved processing speeds for high-quality video and enhanced 3D graphics processing for advanced mobile multimedia functions.
The platform is planned to be offered to mobile phone manufacturers worldwide. The first device on the new platform is expected to be released late in 2011 or early in 2012.
